Van Nuys airshow

Van Nuys is very close to Los Angels Metropolitan area.
I visited the airshow in 1997. There were lots of military and civilian performers. Especially of note is the C-130 California Air National Guard Fire Fighting demo, AV-8 demo, German Luftwaffe Tornado (static display only) and the B-2 seen in the photo below.
The base has poor sunlight conditions in the morning, but in the afternoon it will be excellent for photos.

C-130 CA ANG Water Bomber C-130E water bomber of California ANG 115AS demonstrates the fire fighting.
You really need this in California during the dry summer.
Pitalas STOL aircraft, Pilatus Porter PC6/C-H2 owned by Clay Lacy Aviation (N344CL) demonstrates a glide landing with its props at a halt.
Ken Ueno in his Pitts Ken Ueno is one of the leading aerobatics pilots in Japan.
In the past he was winner for the Biplane class of Reno Airrace.
During the Van Nuys air expo, he is demonstrating aerobatics with the Pitts S-2B (N260AB).

This aircraft later crashed during photo & chase sortie in 2001 and 2 crews were killed.

On Sunday afternoon the crews boarded, started engines and made a taxi for the runway.

Aircraft is AV-8B (Bu.164123 / WL-03) of USMC VMA-311.
B-2 side view This was the first time I have ever seen a B-2.
